Description | Practical, general workplace training supported by an individualized learning plan developed by the employer, college, and student. | ||||||||||
Prerequisites |
Technical Certificate: A minimum of 9 hours DAAC courses need to be completed prior to starting Practicum work. Exceptions are permitted to students already holding a counseling license or otherwise acceptable degree related experience. Associate Degree: A minimum of 21 credit hours is preferred. Exceptions are based on a students previous degree, experience, or if a student current holds a counseling license. |

Lecture Topics Outline |
Provide the student an opportunity to work in a chemical dependency/substance abuse treatment facility and be exposed to the eight practice domains of substance abuse counseling. The student will complete 320 hours of supervised observation and limited participation in the facility under the direct supervision of a licensed chemical dependency counselor or care environment. The student will document a minimum of 20 hours of supervised experience in each of the eight practice dimensions of the KSA (Knowledge, Skills and Attitudes) of Addiction Counseling Competencies. Lecture and class discussion Group problem solving on site Instructor site visitations Instructor consultations with site supervisor Self-exploration exercises Course Objectives and/or Competencies: The course meets the practicum course content required by the Texas Department of State Health Services as a drug specific core course required meeting state Licensed Chemical Dependency Counselor (LCDC) requirements. |
